About Mysore Style Yoga
We are a yoga studio focusing on teaching the Ashtanga method as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson R. Sharath Jois. Ashtanga yoga is a powerful and dynamic form of yoga based on a variety of body positions, called asanas, combined with breathing exercises. These asanas are performed in a certain order and with a flow in which breathing and body movements are connected.
In Ashtanga yoga it is important that you feel safe and develop at your own pace. By focusing on the breath and the movement, you’ll notice how you will become faster, more flexible and get a better focus on your daily life – no matter what condition you are in today. The breathing will help you challenge your body further and make it easier for you to perform the asanas we practice. There is no pressure on reaching a certain level at a certain time. Everybody can do yoga.
Ashtanga means “eight limbs”. Practicing ashtanga yoga means practicing all of the eight limbs. One of these limbs is the control of the body through asana and the control of the breath through pranayama. The others include moral and ethical principles, self-study, concentration and meditation. Most of the western world begins with the physical aspect and gradually, the other elements are introduced. Yoga caters to both body and soul and can be used as a tool for managing daily life and to lead a more balanced life altogether. You can choose what is important to you and how you do yoga. Some people like to focus on the breathing and physical exercises while others seek the benefits of introducing the philosophical aspects.
The regular practitioner of yoga is given the opportunity to develop and grow physically, mentally and emotionally. Yoga helps you find your inner strength, joy and silence. Yoga gives life balance uniting body and soul. We will gladly assist you on the way.

The term “Mysore style” refers to the way the ashtanga yoga method is taught by Sri K.Pattabhi Jois and his grandson R.Sharath in the city of Mysore, India. The ashtanga yoga system follows a therapeutic and progressive sequence of asanas. This established traditional system is practised everyday. Each student is encouraged to memorize this sequence and develop a personal practise.
In mysore class each student is taught individually. In other words,he or she is given a one-on-one lesson within the group setting. The student is taught progressively according to his or her individual needs. For this reason, each student is encorauged to make a month- to- month commitment. Ashtanga yoga is an exact and detailed science that is learned over the course of several years.
Begginer students are welcome to join class!
In fact, The Mysore style method is ideal for people who are just getting started. New students are expected to make a minimum commitment of 3 times per week, although 5 times per week is suggested. They will be taught the first basic sequences and their practise will be approximately 20 or 30 minutes. Students will progress further depending on their ability to memorize the sequence and gain reasonable level of proficiency in the poses. Although flexibility, strength and coordination are helpful, they are not required.Anyone can enjoy the rewards of yoga, providing they are willing to make an effort.
